What does Betapump do?
Made by Max’s Lab, this all natural pre workout is claimed to promote:
- Strength
- Focus
- Endurance
- Pump
But how well does it really work?
In this review, we look closer at Betapump Black to see how effective it really is.
This is what you need to know:
Can I double scoop it?
We definitely don’t recommend it.
Taking two servings of this pre workout is a bad idea.
With 325mg of caffeine per serving, you’d end up with 650mg if you doubled up.
Our recommended safe limit is 300mg – so this pre workout was a risk from the get go.
Don’t double serve this pre workout and be careful when using it.
What about the ingredients in Betapump Black?
Not that great.
It seems to have added more amounts of the poorer ingredients and less of the effective options.
Leading it to be under dosed in some places, while over dosed in others, and not in a good way.
There’s also a risk of side effects.
Here, take a look:
Beta Alanine
One of the better options for performance – but there is a mild downside.
Having been seen to buffer the acid in your muscles before a workout, Beta Alanine can help improve endurance and overall explosive power.
However, studies have shown that use of this amino acid may also cause side effects.
More on that in the Side Effects section later.
Creatine
A great addition for strength.
Creatine has been seen to help fuel ATP in your body – which is what your muscles use for energy.
Keeping these stores topped up, ATP gives you additional strength and energy which can help improve power output and overall endurance.
L-Tyrosine
A good choice when it comes to focus.
Tyrosine has been seen to work as an anti-stress aid.
It helps to promote dopamine and serotonin in your body which helps to reduce stress and maintain calmness.
This keeps your relaxed and focused during training.
Caffeine
We don’t need to tell you how good this nutrient is – caffeine is a natural stimulant, and it works damn well.
Promoting both energy and power output – its ideal for anyone who’s looking for a pick me up.
The only thing we would say is the dosage in Betapump Black is a little high. 325mg is over what we recommend in one serving of a pre workout and could cause side effects.
More on those effects later.
Betaine
Essentially red beetroot – and it’s not to be underestimated.
Betaine has been seen to help improve plasma nitrate in the body, which can support endurance.
It’s a good, reliable and natural pre workout nutrient.
Citrulline
One of the better amino acids when it comes to nitric oxide levels and muscle pumps – but is there enough?
Studies have shown for Citrulline to improve muscle pumps, endurance, and essentially your overall workout you need at least 6000mg.
At only 1000mg Betapump Black really falls short of the mark.
There’s nowhere near enough here for the best results.
L-Arginine
Thought to help in a similar way to Citrulline – but studies have shown otherwise.
Although Arginine can help boost nitric oxide and blood flow – it can’t with oral supplementation.
The amino acid isn’t absorbed effectively enough to have the best effects.
It’s not a good option.
Choline
Choline is more of a nootropic (brain booster).
It has been seen to promote learning and overall cognition.
It may help you focus more in a session and give more to your set.
Ingredients Rundown: On the whole, this isn’t the best nutrient profile for a pre workout. The issue is that some of the ingredients (like the caffeine) are over dosed, and may cause side effects. The Beta Alanine also has a risk of doing this too. Whereas other ingredients that are good like the Citrulline are under dosed, with only around 1000mg per serving. It’s just not that good overall and you could definitely do better elsewhere.
Side Effects
There are two ingredients that you need to be concerned with in this product; the caffeine and the beta alanine.
We wouldn’t usually put caffeine in the side effects section – but 325mg per serving is excessive and may cause the following side effects:
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Increased Heart Rate
- Risk of High Blood Pressure
Whereas the Beta Alanine may cause paresthesia – an itching in the hands and face, which can be incredibly distracting and may tank your session.
