What does MuscleSport International Rhino Sport do?
From MuscleSport International, this is an all natural pre workout claimed to promote:
- Focus
- Muscle Pumps
- Energy
But how well does it really work?
In this review, we look closer at Rhino Black to see how effective it really is.
This is what you need to know:
Can you double scoop it?
We strongly advise against it.
At a whopping 400mg of caffeine, Black Rhino is already over our safe limit of 300mg per serving.
Doubling up would take you to 800mg – which is half a gram more than we would recommend to anyone.
Even at a single dose, you’re risking side effects here.
It isn’t your best option.
What about the ingredients in Rhino Black?
They’re mixed.
Don’t get us wrong, there are some good ingredients in this pre workout – but it’s definitely not your best option out there.
Some of the nutrients have very little clinical backing – and there’s a chance of side effects.
Here’s what you need to know:
Citrulline
One of the better amino acids for muscle pumps.
The great thing about Citrulline is how well is works. It is converted into L-Arginine in your kidneys which greatly promotes nitric oxide.
Nitric oxide boosts overall blood flow and gives you some amazing muscle pumps.
The only drawback is, you need to use a lot of Citrulline to pull this off – however with the 6000mg in this supplement, you’ll be absolutely fine.
Betaine/Beta Vulgaris
From beetroot, this is another good addition.
Betaine can help improve nitrate levels which improves overall endurance.
It’s a good addition to have in this product.
Taurine
Taurine however isn’t so good.
Thought to boost energy, due to its inclusion in most energy drinks, Taurine has been seen to only mildly improve overall blood flow.
It doesn’t make much difference.
Arginine
A poor choice.
Although Arginine is what Citrulline converts into – you don’t want to supplement it directly.
It doesn’t absorb well at all.
You’ll get no nitric oxide boost from this nutrient and see very little results.
L-Orthinine
A non protein amino acid, that is a slightly ineffective option.
May help reduce fatigue to a minor extent – but doesn’t make that much of an overall difference.
Beta Alanine
A useful addition – but it can cause problems.
Beta Alanine can help to buffer the acid in your muscles which can improve power output and endurance.
However, it can also cause several side effects along with it. We’ll go into more detail on that in the later section.
Creatine
This is a better choice.
Creatine is great for retaining water in your muscles and fuelling ATP.
But what does that mean?
Basically you’ll perform with a higher level of strength.
This is great for busting plateaus and breaking personal bests.
L-Tyrosine
A good amino acid for mindset.
By promoting happy hormones like Dopamine and Serotonin in your system, L-Tyrosine helps you to approach a session with a calm and positive mindset.
Caffeine
We all know how good caffeine is – but is 400mg too much?
Known for its ability to stimulate your body which increases both energy and power output – caffeine is essential to any solid pre workout.
However, 400mg is 100mg over our recommended safe limit.
Be careful with this option.
Hordenine
May have some fat burning effects – although it’s unreliable in studies.
Not only that hordenine may cause you to a fail a drug test due to a false positive for opiates.
Ingredients Rundown: On the whole, this isn’t the best nutrient profile on the market. Although extensive Rhino Black uses quite a few ingredients that are ineffective for performance, some that cause side effects, and a near dangerous amount of caffeine. It’s not your best option – and we definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who’s new to Pre workouts.
Side Effects
There are two main ingredients where you can expect side effects: the caffeine and beta alanine.
Firstly let’s handle the Beta Alanine. Although it has some performance benefits – it may cause paresthesia.
This is an itching in both the hands and face and can be very distracting during a workout. Trust us, we know.
Not only that the caffeine dose is way too high for this product. At 100mg above our recommended safe limit you risk the side effects of:
- Increased Heart Rate
- High Blood Pressure
- Dizziness
- Heart Palpitations
- Nausea
- Light Headedness
Definitely not what you want in a pre workout.
