Made by Nutricost, this is an all natural supplement that is claimed to promote:
- Energy
- Pump
- Endurance
But how well does it really work?
In this review, we look closer at Pre Workout Complex to see how effective it actually is.
This is what you need to know:
Can I double scoop it?
We wouldn’t recommend it.
With 300mg of caffeine per serving Nutricost’s supplement is right on the limit of what recommend for caffeine.
Anything more than 300mg and you risk side effects. Doubling up here would take you to 600mg.
For the safest experience, stick to using 1 serving as recommended.
What about the ingredients in Pre Workout Complex?
Not that great.
Although there are some effective options in this product, other additions let it down.
Some nutrients may cause side effects, while others will have no effect at all – be it positive or negative.
Here’s what you need to know:
Citrulline
One of the better amino acids for muscle pumps – and there’s a good amount here too.
By being converted in your kidneys into L-Arginine, Citrulline promote overall Nitric Oxide levels.
This means you get a higher level of blood flow and a stronger overall pump in the gym.
Beta-Alanine
A good option for power and endurance – however it does have its drawbacks.
By buffering the acid in your muscles, Beta Alanine has been seen to help improve overall power and endurance.
However it may also cause side effects – more on what that entails later.
Creatine
A better option.
Creatine helps to supply your body with ATP, the chemical your muscles use for energy.
By increasing your overall amount of ATP you can lift more weight, and train for longer.
It also improves water retention in the muscles which helps with overall size.
L-Leucine
A branch chain amino acid that has some minor benefit.
Leucine helps your body to utilize protein. This may help to a minor extent with recovery and the building of muscle.
Arginine
A poorer addition.
Unfortunately, although effective when in your body – Arginine isn’t effective when supplemented.
The issue here is the absorption. It has failed to have an impact in performance when supplemented orally.
Betaine & Beet Powder
A more beneficial option.
Beetroot is one of the best natural pre workouts options.
Known to help your body produce more plasma nitrate – this helps with blood flow and muscle pumps.
It has been seen in numerous studies to improve absorption.
Caffeine
One of the better natural stimulants.
Caffeine has been seen to help promote both energy and power output in the gym.
The caffeine dose is at our recommended safe limit of 300mg and may be too much for some people.
L-Norvaline
Another risky choice.
Although Norvaline has been seen in several studies to increase the amount of time you experience a muscle pump – it does cause side effects.

Higenamine
An ineffective fat burner.
Higenamine has been claimed in some cases to help promote overall energy and fat loss.
However, studies have shown the studies behind this nutrient has limited results.
It may not be your best option.
Ingredients Rundown: On the whole, this isn’t the best nutrient profile for a pre workout. The main problem is that not all the ingredients are effective. Don’t get us wrong, there are some nutrients in here that are beneficial to your workout – but others make very little difference, and some even cause side effects.
Side Effects
There are two main ingredients you need to be cautious of here; the Beta Alanine and the L-Norvaline.
Beta Alanine has been seen to cause paresthesia – an itching of both the hands and the face, while not harmful – it can be annoying and distracting.
Whereas Norvaline has been linked to causing symptoms such as:
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Light Headedness
- Headaches
It’s not a great option.
