What does Platinum Labs Awaken do?
Made by Platinum Labs, this is an all natural pre Workout claimed to promote:
- Energy
- Focus
- Alertness
But how effective is it really?
In this review, we look closer at Awaken to see how effective it really is.
This is what you need to know.
Can you double scoop it?
We wouldn’t recommend it.
With 250mg caffeine per serving, double scooping this would put you way over the limit of our recommended safe dosage.
The highest we recommend is 300mg caffeine before a workout.
It may not be safe going further than that.
What about the ingredients in Platinum Labs Awaken?
Not that great.
There are only 2 effective ingredients in here.
The rest are either irrelevant to performance or may even cause side effects.
This is what you need to know:
Beta Alanine
Good for some reasons, bad for others.
Beta Alanine is good for buffering the acid in your muscles. This allows you to have more power and endurance.
However it’s also been linked to causing side effects.
We’ll go into this more in the later sections.
L-Tyrosine
An anti stressor amino acid.
L-Tyrosine has it’s moments. As an anti stressor it can help more of the positive hormones like Serotonin and Dopamine.
This can help boost your overall mood and keep you more positive while training.
L-Taurine
Not as good as you think.
Many think Taurine, because it is used in energy drinks, is a stimulant.
This is not the case. In actuality, taurine promotes blood flow and circulation.
This may help nutrients move more around your system and mildly help with absorption.
L-Theanine
One of the better options here.
Like a better version of L-Tyrosine, L-Theanine helps to raise the depressive hormones in your body like GABA without causing fatigue.
This allows you to have more focus and attentiveness throughout the day – especially when combined with caffeine.
Caffeine
A good choice.
Caffeine has been seen to increase energy and power output.
It’s one of the best natural stimulants out there.
Studies have also shown that in some cases it can even promote fat loss by how it effects metabolism.
It’s a good addition.
Theobromine
Linked to blood flow.
Found in dark chocolate, Theobromine has been seen to mildly promote circulation, which may help move nutrients around your system.
Higenamine
Not a great option.
Thought to have similar mechanism to ephedrine – however the evidence for it working as such is limited.
Studies have shown that it’s rather unreliable when it comes to these fat burning benefits.
Hordenine
Found in a variety of foods.
Hordenine is thought to help burn both fat and boost energy levels.
However actual evidence is limited for these claims. Many sources claim it isn’t fit for supplementation yet, and a lot more work is needed before it should be used.
Synephrine
One of the worst choices out there.
Synephrine was believed to help as a stimulant and fat burner – however, studies have shown that it may not reliably deliver those benefits.
Not only that, it’s been seen to cause numerous side effects when mixed with caffeine – which Platinum Labs’ Awaken has a lot of.
It’s not good.
Ingredients Rundown:
On the whole, awaken has a rather poor nutrient profile.
The main thing that is has going for it are the caffeine/L-Theanine combination.
After that it stops being appealing.
Many of the ingredients aren’t fully supported by clinical backing, and some may even cause side effects.
There are definitely better options out there.
Side Effects
The main thing you have to worry about with Awaken is the Beta Alanine and the Synephrine.
Beta Alanine isn’t that harmful – but it can get annoying. By causing Paresthesia, an itching of the hands and face, Beta Alanine can get very annoying during training.
Especially if you’re training for a PR.
Synephrine on the other hand is a lot worse. When combined with caffeine, this nutrient has been seen to cause numerous side effects including;
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Increased Heart Rate
- Risk of High Blood Pressure
Definitely not what you want while training.
