What does SCI-MX Nutrition X-Plode+ Hardcore do?
Made by SCI-MX, this is an all natural pre workout claimed to promote:
- Focus
- Energy
- Performance
But how well does it really work?
In this review, we look closer at X-Plode+ Hardcore to see how effective it really is.
This is what you need to know:
Can I double scoop/serve it?
We wouldn’t recommend it.
The main problem with doubling up on this pre workout is that it doubles your caffeine intake – which in this case would take you to 370mg.
Our recommended safe limit for caffeine is 300mg per serving – going over this may lead to stimulant related side effects.
You should use it as directed.
What about the ingredients in X-Plode+ Hardcore?
They’re okay – but there’s definite room for improvement.
Not all the nutrients used have been seen to promote an effective workout, whereas others like the Beta Alanine has been seen to cause side effects.
Not only that, core nutrients like the Citrulline have been clearly under dosed.
Here’s what you need to know about the main nutrients:
Arginine
One of the poorer options in a pre workout.
L-Arginine has been linked to improving the overall amount of nitric oxide in your body – this can lead to increased blood flow and muscle pumps.
So what’s the problem?
Absorption. Studies have shown that oral supplementation of Arginine leads to little to no effect on nitric oxide levels – it just can’t be absorbed properly.
It’s not a great option.
Citrulline
A far better choice.
Citrulline does what Arginine can’t – it can be absorbed.
After being consumed Citrulline is converted in your kidneys into L-Arginine which then goes on to increase your nitric oxide levels, blood flow and muscle pumps.
The only issue here is the dosage – there isn’t enough. Studies have shown you need 6 – 8g of Citrulline to get any real effects.
With only 2.6g this clearly isn’t your best option.
Beta-Alanine
A good option for endurance – but it does have its drawbacks.
Beta Alanine has been seen in several studies to increase power output and endurance by buffering the acid in your muscles.
However, users have reported several side effects when using the amino acid that may stop it being a good choice.
More on those side effects later.
Taurine
A supportive amino acid – but it’s nothing special.
Taurine has been seen in numerous studies to help promote blood flow – but not to the same extent as Citrulline.
It may help with nutrient flow, but it won’t dramatically improve muscle pumps.
Tyrosine
An anti stressor amino acid.
L-Tyrosine helps with focus, more than if helps with actual energy.
By helping to reduce your body’s levels of cortisol – the stress hormone, Tyrosine helps to clear your head and concentrate more on your session.
Siberian Ginseng
Not a great option.
Siberian Ginseng hasn’t been linked to containing that many benefits when it comes to your workout.
It may have a mild effect on nitric oxide – which can help blood flow, but not to the extent of influencing muscle pumps.
Guarana
A herb with a caffeine kick.
Guarana has a few antioxidants that may promote overall health – but it’s real benefits come from the caffeine content.
It helps to improve energy and power output, with some additional benefits to boosting metabolism.
Caffeine
We don’t have to tell you how effective caffeine is for energy – it’s made a pretty good name for itself.
One of the best natural stimulants on the market – caffeine has been proved time and time again to help improve energy and power output.
Studies have also shown it has some benefits when it comes to boosting metabolism too.
It’s a great addition to X-Plode+ Hardcore.
Ingredients Rundown: On the whole, this isn’t the best nutrient profile we’ve seen in a pre workout. There are several issues with X-Plode+ Hardcore’s ingredients such as under-dosing in some places, and causing side effects in others. Not only that, not all the ingredients in this product are effective, and there are better options out there.
Side Effects
Your main concern here is the Beta Alanine.
Although it does it have some positive effects – multiple user reports have seen this nutrient to cause paresthesia.
This is a condition which involves the itching of both the face hands – although it’s not harmful long term – the side effects can be distracting when you’re training in the gym.
