What does Six Star Explosion do?
Manufactured by Six Star Nutrition, this is an all natural pre workout that has been seen to promote:
- Energy
- Focus
- Muscle Pumps
- Endurance
But how well does it really work?
In this review, we look closer at Explosion to see how effective it really is.
This is what you need to know:
Can you double scoop it?
From a caffeine point of view – absolutely.
With only 135mg of caffeine per serving, doubling up on this pre workout won’t cause a stimulant issue.
The only thing we would say is to look out for the beta alanine. It has been linked to causing side effects – and doubling up would increase the chances of this happening.
What about the ingredients in Six Star Explosion?
They could be better.
The issue is with the proprietary blends. This is when a range of ingredients are bundled together under the same nutrient profile.
You don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting, or how effective it will be overall.
Not only that, one or two of the ingredients may cause side effects.
Here’s what you need to know:
Beta Alanine
A good option for performance – but may cause problems down the line.
Beta Alanine has been seen to buffer acid in your muscles that helps promote endurance and explosive power.
However it has been linked to side effects in numerous users – more on that in the later sections.
Creatine
A good option for strength.
Creatine helps promotes your body’s ATP – which helps produce energy and power output.
There are numerous studies that show creatine to have a positive effect on both muscle strength and size.
Arginine
A poorer addition.
Arginine has been thought to improve nitric oxide levels – which in turn increases blood vessel dilation, and serious muscle pumps.
However, studies have shown that although Arginine does this – it is not absorbed properly when supplemented orally.
It may not work effectively.
Caffeine
One of the best natural stimulants you can buy.
Caffeine has been seen in multiple studies to help promote energy and power output.
It’s exactly what you need for that added edge on your session.
Choline
A good addition when it comes to focus.
Choline has been seen to promote overall learning and focus – and is commonly found more in brain boosters rather than pre workouts.
It should have some benefit on your concentration.
L-Tyrosine
A solid amino acid for mood and motivation.
L-Tyrosine has been seen to promote the happy hormones in your body like dopamine and serotonin.
It’s an anti-stressor, so the main benefit you’re getting here is going to be mood.
You’ll be more focused and motivated during your workout.
Taurine
Not a great addition.
Taurine may mildly promote circulation, which may help with overall absorption – but not performance.
L-Citrulline
A better choice – especially for muscle pumps.
L-Citrulline is an effective vasodilator for blood vessel dilation and overall pump – it works by being converted into L-Arginine after being absorbed, allowing it to promote nitric oxide and over blood flow.
However, is there enough? Studies have shown you need 6000 – 8000mg for effective pumps, whereas this only makes up part of a 500mg blend.
It doesn’t seem likely.
Ingredients Rundown: On the whole, this isn’t the best pre workout nutrient profile we’ve seen. One of the first mistakes are there proprietary blends – in some cases you don’t know how much you’re getting or how effective it will be overall. Not only that, some of the ingredients are ineffective and others can even cause side effects. It’s not your best option.
Side Effects
The ingredient you need to worry about here is the Beta Alanine.
Although it increases endurance, Beta Alanine has been seen to cause paresthesia – and itching in both the face and hands.
Although not harmful, it can be a huge distraction when training and greatly affect your session.
