What does Healthy Body Xtreme Blast do?
From Healthy Body, this is an all natural pre workout that is claimed to promote:
- Muscle Growth
- Focus
- Energy
- Performance
But how well does it really work?
In this review, we look closer at Xtreme Blast to see how effective it really is.
This is what you need to know:
Can I double scoop it?
We wouldn’t recommend it.
With 250mg of caffeine per serving – we wouldn’t recommend going doubling up on this pre workout.
Our recommended safe limit for caffeine is 300mg – going over that may lead to problems.
Doubling up would take you to 500mg which may cause side effects.
What about the ingredients in Xtreme Blast?
Could be better.
Don’t get us wrong, some of the ingredients in this product are effective – however some really aren’t.
And to make things worse, some have been linked to side effects.
Here’s what you need to know about the nutrient profile:
Beta Alanine
One of the better choices for energy, but there’s an issue with side effects.
Beta Alanine helps by buffering the acid in your muscles. This can help with power output and endurance – however it can cause side effects.
We’ll cover the negatives on this nutrient later on.
Arginine
Linked to boosting nitric oxide and muscle pumps – but there’s a problem.
Arginine isn’t absorbed effectively when supplemented orally.
It can only boost blood flow and muscle pumps after being absorbed.
In this case it won’t have any effect.
Citrulline
Citrulline on the other hand will.
This is a precursor to Arginine and will convert into it in your kidneys.
This will help you get stronger blood flow and more intense muscle pumps.
One thing we would say however is the dosage. Studies suggest you need 6000 – 8000mg of this nutrient to see any real effects, at only 1500mg in Xtreme Blast, you may be disappointed with the outcome.
L-Carnitine
A solid amino acid, that helps with performance.
Seen in numerous studies to help with energy and metabolism, L-Carnitine is effective in doses from 500 – 2500mg.
It’s a solid addition here.
Mucuna L-Dopa
Won’t help physical performance – but it may help your mental state.
The L-Dopa in Mucuna Pruriens can help promote the ‘feel-good’ hormones dopamine and serotonin. They can also help reduce lower the stress hormone cortisol.
This will give you a more relaxed mental edge which will slow you to focus more.
Taurine
Used commonly in energy drinks – but is not a stimulant.
Taurine helps promote blood flow, which may help with absorption time and overall circulation.
Caffeine
Arguably the best natural stimulant.
Caffeine has been seen in numerous studies and report to boost overall energy levels and power output.
Theobromine
Found in dark chocolate and can help to promote blood flow.
This may help with nutrient flow, but not so much with performance.
Yohimbe
An appetite suppressant that could cause problems.
Yohimbe may curb your appetite but it has also been linked to causing several side effects.
More on that in the next section.
Ingredients Bottom Line: On the whole, this isn’t the best nutrient profile you can find in a pre workout. The main problem are the side effect risks from both Beta Alanine and Yohimbe. On top of that there are also ineffective ingredients – which don’t promote your workout like Arginine which can’t be absorbed. It’s not your best option.
Side Effects
There are two main ingredients you should be concerned with here: the Beta Alanine and the Yohimbe.
The Beta Alanine has been linked to causing paresthesia – and itching of both the hands and face.
It’s harmless, but the itching can get annoying and distract you from your session.
Yohimbe has been linked to numerous side effects including anxiety, hypertension and gastrointestinal distress.
It’s definitely not your best option.
