What does Lumberjacked do?
Made by Kodiak Supplements – this is an all natural pre workout that is claimed to promote;
- Energy
- Strength
- Muscle Pumps
But how well does it really work?
In this review, we look closer at LumberJacked to see how effective it really is.
This is what you need to know:
Can I double scoop it?
We wouldn’t recommend it.
With 200mg of caffeine per serving, you don’t want to be doubling up.
This would take you to 400mg – 100mg more than we recommend as a safe level of caffeine.
Don’t push it.
What about the ingredients in LumberJacked?
Not that great.
Don’t get us wrong – there are some good options in LumberJacked, however there are numerous options out there, but they could be better, and less under dosed in some places.
There’s also a risk of side effects.
Here’s what you need to know:
Beta Alanine
Has some benefits, but there are some problems with Beta Alanine.
By buffering the acid in your muscles, beta alanine can help to improve your overall endurance and power output.
However, there’s an issue here with side effects.
It’s common to experience Paresthesia while using beta alanine – we’ll cover more on this in the side effects section below.
L-Citrulline
One of the better amino acids out there.
L-Citrulline is great for muscle pumps. By being converted into L-Arginine in your kidneys, and then promoting Nitric Oxide – L-Citrulline dilates your blood vessels and gives you incredible muscle pumps.
The only problem we would say is the dosage. Studies have shown for the best results you need 6000 – 8000mg per serving. At only 4000mg in LumberJacked you may not get the full benefit.
L-Tyrosine
An anti stressor.
L-Tyrosine has been seen in numerous studies to reduce the stress hormone cortisol in your body and promote relaxation.
This may allow you to focus more and concentrate more on your session.
Huperzine A
A cognitive enhancer, that isn’t it’s all it’s cracked up to be.
Studies have shown that may help to some degree with focus – however there’s an issue here with tolerance.
Taking Huperzine A long term may mean it could lose its overall effect.
It’s not your best option if you’re looking for effective results.
L-Theanine
An amino acid that works in synergy with caffeine.
L-Theanine promotes the calming hormones in your body – GABA and serotonin.
These hormones increase your overall relaxation. Which allows you to be less distracted and can focus more.
When combined with caffeine – L-Theanine gives you a combination of both high energy and focus.
Caffeine
Arguably the best option for a natural stimulant.
Caffeine has been seen to help raise both energy and power out put for a workout – due to its ability to effectively promote wakefulness.
Not only can it improve your workout, but it can also help your waistline. Caffeine has been seen to improve metabolism and increase overall calories burned.
Green Tea
A good thermogenic option, which can help fat burning – but not so much your workout.
Green Tea contains a small amount of caffeine which can help to promote energy.
It mainly helps promote norepinephrine (the fat burning hormone) which can help improve overall calorie burning and fat loss.
Ingredients Rundown: On the whole, this isn’t the best nutrient profile we’ve seen when it comes to a pre workout. Although it contains several good ingredients like L-Citrulline – they appear to be under dosed in places and not helping every aspect of your workout. There are also some poorer choices here like Huperzine A, which would’ve been better chosen as Rhodiola Rosea. There’s a lot that could be improved.
Side Effects
When it comes to Lumberjacked, you have to be thinking about 2 ingredients: the beta alanine and Huperzine A.
Beta Alanine has been seen to cause Paresthesia, and itching of both the hands and face.
Although not harmful long term, it can lead to can be distracting and make it harder to focus during your session.
The other issue here is the Huperzine A, which hasn’t had enough research to see the long term side effects.

Yes – there definitely are!

On the the whole, this isn’t the best pre workout out there on the market.
From this review, here’s what you need to know about Lumberjacked;
- Can’t double serve – Taking two servings at once will supply you with a dangerous amount of caffeine.
- Potential Side Effects – Beta Alanine and Huperzine A could lead to side effects.
- Ineffective ingredients – Some of the nutrients used are under dosed (L-Citrulline) and may deliver the full effects.
As you can see, this isn’t the best option out there.
