YourPreWorkout.com’s Editor’s note:
After countless years of testing, Roar Ambition’s 4 Gauge is now the only pre workout I use. It has the best ingredients, dosages, and safety that I can take on a regular basis without side effects or building any tolerance.
Needless, to say I’ve finished my first month and already ordered my second bottle. Let me know your experience with 4 Gauge in the comments.
Enjoy the review!
What does 4 Gauge do?
4 Gauge is an all natural pre workout manufactured by Roar Ambition – a supplements company based in the UK. They’re also claiming this product is completely natural – even the sweeteners, which is incredibly rare in this market.
This is clearly a premium product and at $45.00 (£30.00) a piece, you definitely get what you pay for.
It’s claimed to offer the following benefits:
- More Strength: Stronger lifts, and more explosive power.
- Improved Endurance: You can train for longer with more intensity.
- Enhanced Focus and Motivation: Concentrate more on your set and have less distractions.
- Better Muscle Pumps: Have fuller thicker muscles, look and feel better during a workout.
Essentially everything you’re looking for in a pre workout. But how well does it work?
In this review I outline both sides of 4 Gauge; the science, and the experience when taking it – and what you need to know before you use it.
Can I double scoop 4 Gauge?
Technically, 4 Gauge’s direction require 2 scoops to get the full dosage.
The real question is: Can you take 2 servings at once?
Yes, you absolutely can. I spoke to a rep at 4 Gauge, to double-check this when writing this review – they claim doubling up on your servings (if you’re tolerant enough to caffeine) is absolutely fine.
We agree, doubling up the servings would get you a total caffeine amount of 300mg – that’s right on our recommended safe limit and gives you a serious boost in your workout.
What you need to know about the ingredients in 4 Gauge:
The thing I love about 4 Gauge is that there are no proprietary blends – you know exactly what you’re getting with each ingredient.
Not only that the nutrient is near-perfect, there are few things that could be improved (we’ll get to that), but on the whole it’s pretty damn good.
Here’s the rundown of the ingredients:
As you can see, everything that’s been used here is completely natural. Here’s what you need to know:
Citrulline
Arguably the best pre workout nutrient when it comes to getting a pump.
It’s the best vasodilator on the market. In simple terms, that means it’s really good at pushing blood to your muscles. After being absorbed, your body converts Citrulline into L-Arginine, which promotes the nitric oxide in your blood stream.
Nitric oxide dilates your blood vessels, allowing them to move more volume at a time. This gives you serious muscle pumps – and at 6000mg you’re definitely a solid amount.
Creatine
We all know how good creatine is. Renown and proven for its ability to create dramatic strength gains.
This is down to its ability to improve levels of ATP (Adenine Tri-Phosphate). This is essentially your body’s energy source, after it’s used up it becomes ADP (Adenine Di-Phosphate) which is essentially useless.
Creatine helps reform ADP back into ATP which gives you a huge boost in both energy and strength. Not only that with the decades that this nutrient has been out on the market – there has not been one study which shows creatine causes side effects.
It’s safe, it’s proven, and best of all it’s damn effective.
Caffeine & L-Theanine
First things first, we all know caffeine is a great energy and power booster – so why have I put it with L-Theanine here? Because the two work together synergistically. It’s also known as ‘smart caffeine’ you see a lot in the nootropic (brain booster) circles.
Let me explain a little about what L-Theanine does. It’s an amino acid that promotes depressive (don’t think sad – think calming) hormones in your body like GABA and serotonin. This puts you in a calm and relaxed state.
Combine that chill feeling with the stimulating effects of caffeine and you’ve got a serious amount of energy while also being completely focused. Not only that, it lengthens the effects of caffeine to the point that you almost don’t notice it wear off – which also helps you avoid energy crashes.
Rhodiola Rosea
A Scandinavian herb that has been seen to promote mood and motivation. This is a nice touch from 4 Gauge.
Rhodiola Rosea doesn’t promote physical performance, but it gets your brain set to the right gear – which is half the battle. Having been seen to work an effective anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, fatigue-reducing herb. Rhodiola is great for clearing your mind and putting you in a positive mood.
It promotes the feeling of ‘well-being’, keeping you calm and collected for the session ahead.
Here’s a quick rundown of what else is in 4 Gauge:
- Acetyl-L-Carnitine – A great amino acid that helps promote energy levels and metabolism, there’s a solid 500mg amount here too.
- Red Beet – One of the better natural choices. Seen to promote plasma nitrate, red beet is great for endurance and general training.
- Coconut Water – Another great choice that helps flavoring and performance. Coconut water is full of vitamins and minerals that restore electrolytes in the body.

My Experience With 4 Gauge:
When I first ordered 4 Gauge, I didn’t expect it to perform as well as it did.
I have long sessions when I train – usually lasting for around 2 hours at a time. I was looking for something that could for as long as I could – without an energy crash part-way through.
Being a supplement buff, I’d looked into combining caffeine and L-theanine before. So when I came across 4 Gauge stating it was one of its main ingredients, it definitely got me curious.
I took it about 20 minutes before a arms and shoulders session – and it was one of the best workouts I’ve had in my life.
Two words: muscle pumps.
If you do a lot of isolation work, you’ll know how good they are – and with 4 Gauge, they are insane.
I usually train with reps of 10 – 15, and the pumps 4 Gauge gives me are unbelievable. If you train for size, you’ll definitely like what you see when 4 Gauge is at its peak, especially if you’re after that thick, vascular look.
Energy-wise it’s great too. The caffeine and the L-Theanine really does the trick in this product – you’ll be focused throughout your session, and I have to say, I don’t notice an energy crash afterwards.
It’s hard to describe. It’s like you’re buzzed – but you’re cool at the same time. It’s great for giving that stimulant-high the direction it needs to get some serious work done.
If you’re in a plateau and want an awesome session to get you motivated again – I highly recommend 4 Gauge. With 20 servings per shell, you’ll get a solid of month of workouts out of it, and then some.

So What didn’t I like?
There are only 2 problems that I have with 4 Gauge: one with the ingredients, and one with the product itself.
With the ingredients, I’d say there could be more creatine. With only 1000mg of creatine a serving – you may not get enough for a full strength boost. There’s still a good amount – it’s just not the optimum amount.
For me, that’s not much of a problem as I supplement 5000mg of creatine on the side daily. I could see it being a downside for someone who doesn’t supplement it though.
As for the product itself you can only buy 4 Gauge in one place. I like to shop around – so it’s annoying that I can’t go to Amazon, Bodybuilding.com, or GNC for price comparison.
Not major problems, but still worth knowing.
Side Effects
I’ve notice no side effects when using 4 Gauge. The caffeine is a medium dose of 150mg, half of what we recommend as the maximum you can consume before a workout (300mg) – and the L-Theanine handles it well.
There’s no tingling, jitters, headaches or crashing – I think Roar Ambition’s natural sweeteners go a long way in ensuring everything runs smoothly.
It’s completely safe.

Roar Ambition 4 Gauge Review Conclusion
When I first started 4 Gauge, I bought the 1 shell deal for $45, and now I’ve put my order in for 3 more – I know I’m going to be using this for a while.
Sure, it costs more than some other pre workouts – but I’d be surprised if there are any others out there that hit the mark as well as 4 Gauge.
For me, it’s the best pre workout – and if you’re a fan of serious muscle pumps, it probably will be for you. The 6000mg of Citrulline in this puppy really does the trick.
Both the ingredients and the sweeteners are completely natural and I still haven’t heard of anyone having side effects.
