What does MusclePharm Assault Black do?
Made by MusclePharm, this is an all natural pre workout that has claimed to promote:
- Energy
- Strength
- Pump
- Focus
But just how well does it work?
In this review, we look closer at Assault Black and see how effective it actually is.
This is what you need to know:
Can I double scoop it?
We strongly recommend against it.
With a whopping 300mg, this pre workout is right on our limit of what we consider safe.
Doubling up would take you right over the edge and give you some serious troubles.
If you’re thinking about it: proceed with caution.
What about the ingredients in MusclePharm Assault Black?
Okay – but they need some work.
There are some great ingredients in this product, however some of the nutrients used are under dosed.
Not only that, some may even cause side effects, here’s what you need to know:
L-Citrulline
One of the better amino acids for vasodilation.
L-Citrulline is good for muscle pumps – really good.
By being converted by your body into L-Arginine, it promotes nitric oxide which opens blood vessels and promotes the almighty pump while training.
This makes you look and feel so much better in the gym, and even increases endurance.
Agmatine
A metabolite of L-Arginine.
It may help with cognitive health, but not much has been researched.
Beetroot
A good extract that has been seen to increase endurance.
Beetroot works best during a workout and helps replenish electrolytes during training.
This helps you to go for longer.
Hawthorn
Not a great.
This doesn’t promote motivation in anyway.
At most it helps with joint health, but not to any significant level.
Creatine
One of the better choices for strength.
Creatine works by supplying your body with what it needs to retain water in the muscles.
This will make them bigger and stronger with more explosive power.
It’s a good choice,
BCAAs
Non essential but may help your body process protein slightly better.
However this will only help if you’re deficient in BCAAs which, if you have a good diet, won’t be the case.
Beta Alanine
A good option for endurance – but it comes at a cost.
Beta Alanine works to buffer the acid in your muscles, which gives better endurance and performance.
However, it can cause side effects that can distract you from your session.
More on that in the side effect section later.
Caffeine
Arguably the best natural stimulant that you can find.
Caffeine has been linked to promoting both energy and power output. It’s even been seen in some studies to help boost metabolism, which could contribute to fat loss.
Huperzine A
Not a great choice.
Although Huperzine may have some cognitive benefits, there’s a real draw back with the absorption.
Your body makes a tolerance to it far too quickly, which means it must be cycled regularly.
For this benefit you can’t take MusclePharm Assault Black long term.
Ingredients Rundown:
This is one of the better pre workouts out there, but it’s not perfect.
Ingredients like Citrulline have been under dosed, you need at least 5g to get the full effects, and some of the ingredients like Hawthorne and Agmatine won’t do much of anything.
Then you have to think about the potential side effects with Beta Alanine.
It’s a good back up choice, but definitely not a front running pre workout.
Side Effects
Beta Alanine is known for causing problems.
Although it helps endurance, it can also cause paresthesia – an itching in both the hands and face.
Although not dangerous, it’s incredibly distracting when you’re training – we know that first hand.
