What does Pure Label Nutrition’s Rise do?
Made by Pure Label Nutrition, this is an all natural pre workout claimed to promote:
- Energy
- Focus
- Endurance
But just how effective is it?
In this review, we look at what’s in Rise and how well it measures up to other pre workouts out there.
Here’s what you need to know:
Can I double scoop it?
We wouldn’t recommend it.
There’s a lot of caffeine in Rise – 290mg of it.
Our recommended safe limit for a pre workout is typically 300mg. Going over that greatly increases your risk of side effects.
Stick to the recommended dosage.
What about the ingredients in Rise?
Okay – but there are some issues.
Although there are some quality ingredients in this product – there are also some that may cause side effects.
Not only that, there is some under dosing in places too.
Take a look:
Beta Alanine
One of the more effective amino acids, but it comes at a cost.
Used mainly to buffer the acid in your muscles, Beta Alanine has been seen to improve performance and overall power output.
However studies, and user reports have shown that this nutrient may cause side effects.
More on that in the side effects section later.
Creatine
A better option.
Creatine is great for fueling the ATP in your muscles.
This is essentially what supplies your muscles with energy – the more of this you have, the more power you can exert.
Betaine
A component of red beetroot.
Beetroot has been seen to increase plasma nitrate in your blood.
This can improve endurance and overall blood flow and muscle pumps.
Citrulline
One of the better amino acids for muscle pumps.
After being absorbed, Citrulline is absorbed by your body and converted into L-Arginine – which promotes nitric oxide – a vasodilator which pumps muscles up.
However, studies have shown you need at least 6000mg to get the full effects of this nutrient. With only 500mg, it’ll be hard to get any real benefit.
Choline
A cognitive enhancer which may promote focus.
Choline has been seen to help improve overall learning while also helping to improve focus and clarity.
This will help you concentrate more while training.
L-Tyrosine
An anti-stressor amino acid.
L-Tyrosine has been seen to promote both relaxation and calmness hormones like dopamine and GABA.
You’ll be able to focus more with less distractions.
Caffeine
We don’t need to tell you how good caffeine is.
One of the best natural stimulants on the planet – caffeine is a great option for increasing energy and power.
Not only that caffeine can also improve metabolism and increase fat loss.
Huperzine A
This on the other hand is not a great choice.
Huperzine A is an under researched cognitive enhancer with only short term effects.
Although it does help cognition to a mild effect – you can build a tolerance to it quickly, making it useless – and it still unknown whether it causes side effects long term.
It’s not a great option.
Ingredients Rundown: On the whole, this isn’t the best pre workout nutrient profile we’ve seen. Although it does have some ingredients that have benefits – some of the nutrients used are under dosed, while others may cause side effects. It’s got some good nutrients – but a poor follow through overall.
Side Effects
There are two ingredients you need to be concerned with here in Pure Label’s Rise: the Beta Alanine and the Huperzine A.
Beta Alanine has been reported numerous times to cause paresthesia – an itching of both the hands and face.
Whereas Huperzine A on the other hand is under researched – and may cause problems long term. It is still being investigated. It is better to avoid it until new evidence comes to light.
